I have been a fan of Sophie Kinsella for years after reading her hugely popular Shopaholic book series.

When I first heard she was releasing a YA novel, I quite literally jumped up and down with excitement.

Sophie Kinsella and YA are probably two of my most favourite things and FINALLY they were combining forces!

It’s quite odd as I read the Shopaholic series in my early teens, thinking I was all grown up.

I asked myself this very question after reading an article in the Guardian about the bleakness of YA dystopian literature.

The writer of this piece (which is a really great read!) by Delve into Dystopia, suggests dystopian fiction makes our troubles and worries pale in comparison to the kind of worlds we’re being presented within current dystopian fiction, where tales of post–apocalyptic hell are pretty normal.

When I started writing, I naturally veered towards first person narrative. This was before I did any research into the benefits/drawbacks of different POVs – silly I know! So, having become incredibly frustrated with the fact that my protagonist kept having to stumble across the stuff that was happening outside of her little world – usually by using the good ol’ glass to the door cliche – I decided to do a little digging.
